Dortmund's two major universities and the Studierendenwerk are inviting students to their locations for Sustainability Week from May 19 to 22, 2025. Over four days - from Monday to Thursday - sustainable living in everyday life will be the focus of this offer for students and all interested parties. Organized by the Sustainability Offices and the General Student Committees (AStA) of Fachhochschule Dortmund and TU Dortmund University as well as Studierendenwerk Dortmund and the university group CampusForFuture, the Sustainability Week offers a mixture of workshops, lectures as well as action and information stands. The majority of the program takes place on the joint TU and FH campus on Emil-Figge-Straße. All offers and information are available online: www.fh.do/nachhaltig(Opens in a new tab) 

Some highlights of Sustainability Week 2025:

  • KreativFlohMarkt on Monday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Emil-Figge-Strasse 44 and 50. Whether clothing, books, games or technology: this is where things that are no longer used get a second chance. Perennials, cuttings, flower bulbs and seeds can be swapped at the plant exchange. From 10.30 a.m., vegan products, fair coffee and wild herbs will be available at the sustainability market in the Mensa foyer of the Studierendenwerk.
  • The successful "Upcycling Workshop" will take place again this year on Tuesday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Campus-Treff.
  • Also on Tuesday, May 20, Prof. Dr. Aladin El-Mafaalani will give an exciting lecture on "Demographic sustainability and intergenerational justice" at 4.30 p.m. in Lecture Hall Building II at Otto-Hahn-Straße 4 on the university campus.
  • Before the closing party in the kostBar (Emil-Figge-Straße 40), the "Impact Cup" will be awarded to particularly committed individuals and teams from TU and FH from 5 pm.

The anchor point of the Sustainability Week is "Soffi", the mobile sustainability office at Fachhochschule Dortmund. "Our 'Soffi' is now a brand of sustainability at Fachhochschule Dortmund," says Karen Müller, Climate Protection Manager at Fachhochschule Dortmund. "With the joint action week, we want to further raise awareness, for example for resource efficiency, and create broad visibility."

Nina Hänisch from TU Dortmund University's Sustainability Office emphasizes the importance of exchange: "The Sustainability Week is a great opportunity to get involved in social and ecological sustainability issues on campus and to network."

Studierendenwerk Dortmund is also actively involved and will be offering sustainable food in its canteens throughout the week. Rico Heber, Head of Quality Management and Sustainability, says: "Our aim is to make it clear that sustainability also plays an important role in gastronomy and that even small steps can have a big impact."

The Sustainability Week is free of charge and open to all interested parties.

The Sustainability Week is organized by the Sustainability Offices and the General Student Committees (AStA) of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Dortmund University of Technology as well as the Studierendenwerk Dortmund and the CampusForFuture university group.

Location

The majority of the program takes place on the joint TU and FH campus on Emil-Figge-Straße. Other dates are in Dortmund city center.
