University of Applied Sciences mixed orange in DORTBUNT

Published

Make it orange: The facade mapping of the FH on Friedensplatz at the old town hall caused quite a stir.

In "colorful" Dortmund, the orange of the Fachhochschule Dortmund is of course always part of it - especially at the city festival DORTBUNT, which stands for diversity and tolerance and once again attracted thousands of people to the city center from May 2 to 4, 2025.

The University of Applied Sciences already had its fingers in the pie at the DORTBUNT kick-off party on Friday evening. Or rather, its high-performance projectors: storyLab kiU(Opens in a new tab) , led by Artistic Director Harald Opel(Opens in a new tab) , used eight projectors to conjure up a thrilling rollercoaster ride on the façade of the old town hall. Around 8,000 visitors watched the 3D mapping spectacle on Friedensplatz - shortly before the concert by top act Max Giesinger. The building appeared to come to life and took those standing around on a virtual streetcar on a fast-paced journey into the past, present and future of the city.

Acoustic wishes for the city

On the following day, the DORTBUNT guests were able to enjoy the elaborate twelve-minute multimedia production once again after dark. On both days, this was acoustically enriched with wishes to the city of Dortmund, which citizens had previously recorded in a telephone booth specially set up on Friedensplatz.

FH stands at the Reinoldi Church

What do the racing car simulator, 3D printer, popcorn machine and wheel of fortune giveaways have in common? They were among the coveted highlights at the orange-colored UAS stands, with which the UAS also got involved on the last day of DORTBUNT. In the middle of the city center, right next to the Reinoldi Church, visitors were able to approach the UAS in very different ways.

Sebastian Kreimer provided information about the CSR Office.

The University of Applied Sciences had two of its well-known mobile vehicles at the start: the striking HY vintage car(Opens in a new tab)  on the one hand and the unusual "Soffi(Opens in a new tab) " construction trailer on the other, where Sebastian Kreimer(Opens in a new tab)  and his team from the CSR Office(Opens in a new tab)  provided information about climate protection and sustainability issues at the university.

Research and consulting projects

Research projects also provided insights into their work: Prof. Dr. Emra Ilgün-Birhimeoğlu(Opens in a new tab)  used children's books to present how racism is passed on in families and what strategies there are to deal with it ( FaWeRa(Opens in a new tab)  project); Friederike Asche(Opens in a new tab) , meanwhile, raised awareness of the issue of accessibility and made it clear, for example, how much space a wheelchair needs to turn ( Dein*Ort(Opens in a new tab)  project). There were also the "Migration Law Legal Clinic" and "Yellow Letter" advisory projects by Prof. Dr. Christine Graebsch(Opens in a new tab) .

Further actions

While the older DORTBUNT visitors took their tours in the Race-Ing. team(Opens in a new tab)  's simulator, the younger ones had their faces painted by the Family Service(Opens in a new tab)  or made creative crafts. The Makerspace FabLab(Opens in a new tab)  was also full of artists, with a 3D printer, laser cutter, foil plotter and transfer press for textile printing.

Thanks to the University of Applied Sciences, DORTBUNT guests in the city center were able to enjoy around 200 free coffees and 400 free portions of popcorn. The team from the women's project laboratory(Opens in a new tab)  also handed out 75 soldering kits including LEDs, batteries and switches, which were used to create small flashing dinosaurs, unicorns and robots as souvenirs to take home.
