Your feedback - our answers

Published

Some authors have embellished their letters with drawings.

In November and December 2024, we asked you as library users what you always wanted to tell us. Under the motto "Dear Bib", you could write us anonymous analog or digital letters with your feedback for five weeks. We set up pinboards and letterboxes at all three locations, as well as an online form for the email version. We received a total of 61 letters (approx. 93% of which were handwritten). We would like to thank all participants for their words of praise as well as their constructive criticism and specific suggestions for improvement!

In the following, we would like to pick up on some of the aspects addressed in the letters and provide some feedback. We are aware that the results of the campaign are not representative of all users due to the limited number of participants. Nevertheless, we believe that many of the wishes, points of criticism and positive assessments mentioned are also shared by our other users. We therefore consider the feedback from the letters to be very valuable.

Praise and thanks

Of course, we were particularly pleased with the high level of satisfaction with the general atmosphere in the library. Almost 40% of the letter writers explicitly state that they feel very comfortable here and enjoy studying with us. 28% of the letters also contain thanks for our work, individual services or simply for the fact that the library exists. And 17 % praise our staff for their friendliness and helpfulness. We love reading that!

But of course there are also aspects mentioned that could be improved. We have already been able to fulfill some of these wishes.

Wishes that we have already fulfilled (as far as possible)

Wishes that we unfortunately cannot (currently) fulfill

The letters also contain some requests that we are unfortunately unable to fulfill for the time being. We are very sympathetic to these understandable requests, which is why we are keen to explain transparently why it is not possible to implement them - at least not at the moment. First of all, it is important to understand that we as a library are only one of many areas/stakeholders within the university. Therefore, we cannot always make completely independent decisions. To make matters worse, the library does not have its own building, but is housed in departmental buildings at all locations. This means that we are sometimes tied to the conditions in the buildings.
