Girls'Day takes schoolgirls to Fachhochschule Dortmund

Published

The 3D printer in the women's project lab produced a range of handy key rings.

Girls' Day at Fachhochschule Dortmund was a particularly practical key experience for the participating schoolgirls - and not just thanks to the self-made key rings from the women's project laboratory.

The students created individual designs on their laptops.

On April 27, young female participants throughout Germany took the opportunity to gain new insights and experience. The FH Sonnenstraße location was also the right place for them: Here, the participating eighth and ninth graders were able to learn how to create digital construction plans for a wide variety of objects in the women's project lab. They were also able to get hands-on and create their own souvenir key rings on the 3D printer - complete with personalized inscriptions.

Insights into laboratories and workshops

The Girls' Day participants even built an entire house, at least virtually.

The Girls' Day program at Fachhochschule Dortmund also included a tour of several laboratories and workshops, including the FabLab(Opens in a new tab) , where many other creative ideas can be implemented using technical aids such as plotters or laser cutters.

In addition, female UAS students told the visitors about their own path to university and what their current day-to-day studies look like, particularly with regard to the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Appointment for prospective students

One or two Girls' Day participants could soon be back at Fachhochschule Dortmund to gain further impressions on site. Because on Saturday, June 3, 2023, all prospective students are invited to the Open Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
