27 schoolgirls at Fachhochschule Dortmund have now discovered just how varied and useful technical applications can be - the occasion was the nationwide Girls' Day, which Fachhochschule Dortmund used to provide visitors with very practical insights.
Whether manufacturing processes, electromobility, acoustics or energy technology: the young people explored different areas at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts that they might not have come across on their own without Girls' Day. It was not just about watching, but also about participating.

Highlights of the groups' activities
- In the additive manufacturing lab(Opens in a new tab) and the manufacturing technology lab(Opens in a new tab) , the girls designed individual key rings on the computer, used 3D printers to create casting molds and poured them with liquid brass.
- In the FabLab@FHDO makerspace(Opens in a new tab) , the visitors learned how to use 3D printers and pens as well as laser cutters and cutting plotters to create personalized souvenirs.
- The team from the Lean Lab(Opens in a new tab) had prepared an escape room. Here, the girls had to solve exciting puzzles about lean management and assembly systems - and open a locked lab door at the end.
- In the acoustics laboratory(Opens in a new tab) and the laboratory for vehicle electronics(Opens in a new tab) , the participants were able to try out measurements in the sound measurement room, build their own small electric motor and test a driving simulator.
- An experiment awaited the students in the energy technology and heat transfer laboratory(Opens in a new tab) , where they examined and compared different heat exchangers and also looked at computer-aided flow simulation and its application in the engineering profession.
