Information
Fachhochschule Dortmund, together with KANA Dortmunder Suppenküche e.V. and Bochum University of Applied Sciences and Arts, is inviting Prof. Dr. Atif Bilal Aslam from Lahore, Pakistan, to give a guest lecture. The focus will be on the academic view of homelessness as one of the major social challenges of our time - both in Germany and in a global context.
Prof. Dr. Atif Bilal Aslam is Associate Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Lahore and holds a doctorate from TU Dortmund University. In collaboration with researchers from Bochum University of Applied Sciences and Arts, he has conducted several studies that shed light on the similarities and differences in the lives of homeless people in both countries. The results provide insights into the different realities of life and highlight the importance of context-specific and integrative planning for access to social and health services.
Prof. Dr. Dierk Borstel from the Faculty of Applied Social Studies at Fachhochschule Dortmund will also be taking part in the discussion. He has also dealt intensively with the topic of homelessness and conducted research on the subject. Together with Tim Sonnenberg, he published the book "Die 'Unsichtbaren' im Schatten der Gesellschaft - Forschungen zur Wohnungs- und Obdachlosigkeit am Beispiel Dortmund" in 2021. The book focuses in particular on the perspective of homeless people themselves. This and other research projects at Fachhochschule Dortmund provide ongoing insights into the living situation, risk factors and new approaches to prevention work.
The event offers the opportunity to get to know international perspectives, discuss practical solutions and exchange information on current research findings - in line with Fachhochschule Dortmund's mission statement, which focuses on social responsibility, innovation and practice-oriented teaching.
