What makes us special
Good exchange and modern infrastructure
The Bachelor's degree program in Architecture conveys a holistic understanding of building culture. The course is future-oriented and is characterized by its practical relevance. We value good communication and a close exchange between students and lecturers. Equally important for a good education is a modern infrastructure. Our faculty has its own wood workshop, laser, cutting plotter, image, IT and media laboratories as well as laboratories for building materials technology and building physics. You can find more information on the faculty's website.
The completion of our Bachelor of Architecture with two years of professional practice allows you to become a member of the Chamber of Architects with authorization to submit building documents.
The work of students and graduates is regularly exhibited in the entrance foyer and on the galleries of the faculty building.
City and region
Well networked and varied
The Faculty of Architecture is closely integrated into the city and its surroundings. We benefit from the good reputation of Fachhochschule Dortmund. This offers attractive opportunities for cooperation with local authorities and other facilities, institutions and companies in the region. This regularly results in exciting practical tasks for students.
As part of a large urban conurbation, Dortmund is also culturally very diverse and multifaceted. It is a good place to live, especially as rents and the cost of living are comparatively affordable.
Internationality
Practical experience and courses taught in English
The degree program includes a mobility window that allows you to study abroad or complete a practical phase during the semester. This allows you to gain practical experience outside the university during your studies and establish contacts with architecture firms and Business Studies. This is flanked by a reflection phase.
The Faculty of Architecture cooperates with numerous foreign universities, for example in Graz, Pécs and Milan, as well as in Portugal, Spain and Turkey. In order to prepare you comprehensively for the international markets, we are currently developing English-language lectures and seminars at our faculty.
Counseling and support
Mentoring, e-learning and career service
Fachhochschule Dortmund offers its students a unique advisory concept. In the first two semesters, personal mentors are on hand to guide and support you in order to facilitate a successful start and progression of your studies. In the second semester, you will have a progress meeting so that any problems can be identified as early as possible.
We want you to cope well with critical subjects such as math and physics. An extensive advisory network, e-learning offers and the Maths HelpDesk will support you in this.
The Career Service at Fachhochschule Dortmund also offers you numerous opportunities to further develop your skills and sharpen your personal profile. For example, you can develop your key social or methodological skills and expand your foreign language and IT knowledge in interdisciplinary events.
Studying as a phase of life
Family, health and culture
Fachhochschule Dortmund supports students who have responsibility for children or care for relatives. We offer childcare and advise you on financial and organizational issues.
The health of our students is important to us, so they can take advantage of the university sports program, among other things. Our water dispensers are also available free of charge after sport.
We want students to look beyond the confines of the university. For example, you can attend performances at Theater Dortmund free of charge with your student ID.
