About the project
As an interface between school and work as well as between science and practice, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts plays a central role in the science and innovation system with its academic and practice-oriented training of students and its numerous research projects, thus making a significant contribution to scientific and social development.
In order to fulfill this role, it is constantly dependent on highly qualified staff, the recruitment of which has become an increasing challenge.
The appointment of professors in the STEM subjects in particular is proving to be problematic. In order to counteract this shortage of specialists, Fachhochschule Dortmund has participated in the federal and state program to promote the recruitment and development of professorial staff at universities of applied sciences ("FH-Personal") and has defined key measures and instruments as part of a SWOT analysis, which are to be developed and implemented within the project period 01.01.2023 - 31.12.2028 as part of the "Welcome Prof 360 Grad" project.
The project focuses on the following thematic priorities
- Employer branding: target group-specific expansion of the employer brand, strengthening the image and increasing the visibility of Fachhochschule Dortmund as an employer for professorial staff (regionally, nationally and internationally)
- Recruiting: Introduction and expansion of structurally effective instruments for recruiting professorial staff at regional, national and international level
- Appointment procedures: Optimization of appointment procedures in terms of duration, transparency and communication
- Pre- and onboarding: Establishment of specific pre- and onboarding for professors
The overall aim of this project is to establish and further develop interlocking target group-specific instruments that will lead to an increase in the number of applicants for professorial positions and thus to a reduction in the number of secondary advertisements, an increase in the number of appointment proposals and thus to long-term coverage of the demand for qualified professorial staff. These instruments should also serve to shape and retain new appointees in line with Fachhochschule Dortmund's culture.
