Newsletter Internationalization 03/2025

Whether events with international guests, new university collaborations and projects - the range of international activities at our university is broad. With this newsletter, we would like to share the diversity of internationalization topics with you. We hope you enjoy reading it!

Upcoming dates

  • Welcome events for international students

    More than 300 new international students will start their studies at Fachhochschule Dortmund in the winter semester 2025/26. This includes students who wish to complete their entire degree at the university as well as around 80 international exchange students from all over the world. In line with the motto "Welcome2Campus", the students will be welcomed to the university at various events:

    September 16, 10-11:30 a.m.: Welcoming the incoming students at the Emil-Figge-Straße campus.
    Target group: international exchange students from the faculties on the EFS campus

    September 18, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.: Welcome to Sonnenstraße - welcoming the incoming students(Opens in a new tab) 
    Target group: international exchange students from the departments on the SON campus and the Faculty of Design

    September 18, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.: digital orientation day "AMICUS" for international students(Opens in a new tab) 
    Target group: international degree-seeking students (German-language study programs)

    October 1, 9.30 am - 1 pm: Welcome event for international Master's students(Opens in a new tab) 

    The formats are organized and carried out by the International Office or as cooperation events of the individual faculties / study programs with the International Office.

  • 2-28 September 2025
    DAAD Student Exchange Program at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa

    As part of the DAAD-funded project "Global Transformation and Social Work Practice" at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies, a total of eight students from the cooperating universities are researching, learning, teaching and networking in their academic careers by participating in the program at the University of Johannesburg for one month. Two social work students from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts are taking part. For more information, see the project website(Opens in a new tab) .

  • September 20-27, 2025
    DAAD Fact Finding Mission Ghana

    A delegation from the Faculty of Architecture will visit Dumas (partner city of the City of Dortmund) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) there to explore potential for cooperation. Talks are also planned with university and non-university institutions in Accra and Kumasi, including the Ghana-NRW University Alliance.

  • November 4-5, 2025
    DAAD conference on "Sustainable Development Goals, Global Transformation and Social Work Practice" at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts

    As part of a ten-day visit by the partner universities University of Johannesburg (South Africa), University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) and Midlands State University Harare (Zimbabwe), an interdisciplinary two-day conference on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be held at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
    Participation and contributions from all faculties are welcome and encouraged.
    The event is part of the DAAD project "Global Transformation and Social Work Practice" at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies.

Reports from the university

  • Graduating from Fachhochschule Dortmund with the best counseling

    Ten years ago, Amin Kayali fled from Syria to Germany and received comprehensive advice on study options at Fachhochschule Dortmundin 2017. He received a scholarship, attended a preparatory course and a year later began a dual Bachelor's degree in Software and Systems Engineering at the Faculty of Computer Science - which he has now successfully completed. Looking back: International events and visits

  • International Summer Convention (ISC) 2025

    Fachhochschule Dortmund as an international meeting place for science: a good 140 specialists and managers from 35 universities and research institutions from 15 countries traveled to the International Summer Convention at the end of August - almost twice as many participants as at the premiere last year. >> More(Opens in a new tab)

  • Delegation trip to Osaka

    As a representative of the Ruhr University Alliance (HAR), the Rector of Fachhochschule Dortmund, Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel, took part in a delegation trip to Osaka, Japan, with colleagues from the three universities. The business and scientific exchange was organized by the City of Dortmund, the International Relations Team and NRW.Global Business.   • International Day at the Fachhochschule Dortmund

    On June 26, the university-wide International Day was once again held at the Emil-Figge-Str. campus, offering practical, interesting and entertaining information on the topic of international affairs. The International Office and the individual faculties provided information on studying and internships abroad, partner universities, funding opportunities and contacts. The aim of the event is to highlight the diversity of international activities at the University of Applied Sciences and to arouse interest in international experiences. The program was accompanied by hands-on activities, prizes and practical insights - including from students and lecturers from Namibia, who were visiting the Faculty of Architecture at the same time. >> More(Opens in a new tab)

  • Prof. Dr. Liutauras Nekrošius, VilniusTECH, Lithuania

    From 21 to 24 June 2025, Prof. Dr. Liutauras Nekrošius from VilniusTECH University visited the Faculty of Architecture at Fachhochschule Dortmund at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Christiane Fülscher (History, Theory and Conservation of Architecture). As part of the lecture "Building History 2", he gave a lecture on architecture in Lithuania and accompanied the seminar "50 Years of European Monument Protection 1975". The exchange was also used to lay the foundations for a joint research project on German-Lithuanian transfer in architecture.

  • International Summer School Dortmund - Windhoek

    From June 20 to 27, 2025, the Faculty of Architecture hosted an international summer school with 7 students each from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and Fachhochschule Dortmund. Under the motto "1 Building - 2 Students - 4 Cards", the participants worked together to develop a quartet game on the topic of industrial culture and reuse. In addition to excursions to the Zeche Zollverein, Zeche Zollern and Duisburg's inner harbor, the program included group work, a lecture by Jens Wiedow from NUST on architecture in Namibia and an exchange at Fachhochschule Dortmund's International Day. The Summer School was supervised by Reinhild Schultz-Fölsing and Anne Krainz (both Faculty of Architecture) and Jens Wiedow from NUST. The successful summer school is intended to be the prelude to an intensified exchange with NUST, and a return visit to Namibia is already being considered.
