Fachhochschule Dortmund is continuing its international teaching cooperation with Indonesian partner universities: the joint hybrid lecture, which brings together students from Dortmund, Munich and three Indonesian universities digitally, will start again in the 2025 summer semester.
The innovative teaching format will be expanded this year to include another partner university and will be held for the first time in a specially equipped room at Fachhochschule Dortmund.
International networking despite distance and time differences
The concept of the joint hybrid lecture was developed at the Faculty of Business Studies as part of the "Digitalization of Law and Society in Indonesia" project funded by the German Academic Exchange Service. It connects students from the Faculties of Business Studies and Computer Science at Dortmund UAS with fellow students from the Universität der Bundeswehr München, Universitas Islam Riau (Pekanbaru), Universitas Airlangga (Surabaya) and - for the first time this year - Universitas Tarumanagaragara (Jakarta).
Despite a time difference of five hours and a distance of more than 10,000 kilometers, the students learn and discuss current legal and social issues relating to digitalization together. The lecture not only imparts specialist knowledge, but also offers the opportunity for international project work and intercultural exchange.
New technical equipment for international teaching
Also new this year is the equipment in room 113 at the Emil-Figge-Straße UAS campus, which has been fitted with state-of-the-art technology for hybrid teaching formats. Several small cameras hang from the ceiling and microphones transmit sound to the whole world. The room has now been officially inaugurated with the opening event of the hybrid lecture on May 2, 2025. The investment underlines the University of Applied Sciences' long-term commitment to continuing international collaborations even after the DAAD funding comes to an end.
Prof. Dr. Michael Bohne, initiator and lecturer of the hybrid lecture, emphasizes the relevance of the project: "Participating in the joint lecture not only enables our students to deepen their specialist knowledge internationally, but also to acquire intercultural skills that are indispensable in our globalized world. The direct exchange with students from Indonesia and Germany is an excellent opportunity to learn from each other and establish international networks. The fact that we will be able to continue and even expand the cooperation even after the DAAD funding ends shows how valuable and sustainable this collaboration is for both sides."
