Your path to a professorship - profession meets vocation
In addition to teaching content, skills and abilities, you will identify students' skills and strengthen them in the long term.
As a prospective professor, you will have the following qualifications:
- Several years of relevant professional experience
(5 years in total, at least 3 years outside the university) - University degree, usually with a doctorate
- pedagogical aptitude
(will be assessed and determined during your first year of employment)
In the event of an appointment, we expect you to relocate the center of your life to the Ruhr metropolis of Dortmund.
Freedom in teaching and research
Hardly any other profession offers such a high degree of creative freedom. With flexible working hours, you can design and organize your courses according to your own ideas. Pure teaching involves 18 semester hours per week. This can be very time-consuming, especially at the beginning of your career; do not hesitate to discuss this with your colleagues. We have a collegial atmosphere and this forms the basis for constructive cooperation.
In addition to teaching, your tasks will include taking examinations and providing student advice. Your activities will also include interdisciplinary cooperation and self-administration.
You will also be free to choose and carry out your own research. At our university of applied sciences, all the necessary structures are in place for you to pursue application-oriented research in your discipline. You have the opportunity to broaden your own knowledge horizon at any time by working intensively on scientific and artistic topics. We support you with your research proposals and the dissemination of your research findings.
We expect our professors to actively participate in technology transfer and acquire third-party funding projects.
Transfer
We would be delighted if you could bring the networks and contacts you have gained from your professional practice into your work as a professor. For example, you can enable your students to write application-related theses or potential collaborations in research.
The appeal procedure
We work with an online application management system. We therefore ask you to submit your application online if possible.
We would like to point out that an appointment procedure can take up to 1.5 years.
This is what a classic appointment procedure looks like:
- Announcement of the professorship as proposed by the faculty
- Your application
→ Do you meet the recruitment requirements in accordance with Section 36 of the NRW Higher Education Act? - Invitation to a trial teaching event
→ Have you convinced them? - Appointment interview with the Rector
- Appointment as a professor according to W2 grade in a civil servant relationship
