Information
Every year, the World Press Photo Foundation honors the best press photographs in an international competition. The award-winning photos are shown around the world in a traveling exhibition and attract several million visitors. From October 31 to November 30, 2025, the Kulturort Depot will be showing the exhibition in Dortmund as a partner.
The works of Aliona Kardash, a photography student at Fachhochschule Dortmund, can also be seen there. The jury awarded her the 2025 World Press Photo Award in the "Long-term series Europe" category. Born in Tomsk, Russia, the photographer has been living in Germany since 2019 and has been asking herself whether she still understands her homeland since the start of the war in Ukraine. What remains of home when your own country becomes a perpetrator? Who do you become when your own family suddenly feels foreign? How can you find a common language when there are no more words? These are the aspects that the prizewinner focused on in her photographic exploration.
The exhibition in the depot runs until the end of November.
