“Democracy on the Brink: The End of the World as We Knew It”—under this title, the Auslandsgesellschaft and Fachhochschule Dortmund are jointly hosting an evening of lectures and discussions with lawyer and political scientist Albrecht von Lucke on Saturday, November 28, 2026.
The year 2026 is marked by profound upheavals—both in domestic and foreign policy. In domestic politics, the stability of the old Federal Republic—which had always been characterized by a moderate alternation between the center-right and center-left—comes to an end. The new radical challenge—and the strongest force, no longer confined to the East—is now the AfD. In foreign policy, Donald Trump’s presidency radically calls into question the traditional transatlantic relationship. And while Europe finds itself compelled to finally act more independently, Russia’s war against Ukraine continues unabated.
Decisive turning points are thus on the horizon in 2026 and 2027: What lessons will Germany draw from a year of massive domestic tensions and international crises? Albrecht von Lucke will speak and discuss these developments, their background, and possible consequences with the audience.
The one-and-a-half-hour event begins at 6:00 p.m. in the lecture hall of the “kostBar” cafeteria on the Emil-Figge-Straße campus of the Fachhochschule Dortmund.
Admission is free, but registration is required : www.fh.do/lucke(Opens in a new tab)
