Abstract

This text
facilitates the exchange of knowledge, skills, and understanding of best
practice between German and Australian school-based social workers and
educators, working collaboratively towards delivering a quality educational
experience for their students. Expertise from Germany, and two NSW teacher
universities provides the scope to triangulate rural, metropolitan and
international perspectives on the role and relationship between school-based
social workers and educators, using current practices in Germany and the
Australian UNE’s Social Workers in Schools (SWiS) project. The text explores
and informs the challenges and differences in social work and education
language narratives when referring to student behaviours, and highlights areas
of practice understandings, differences, and similarities, and how to best
overcome these. Case studies are used to illustrate participant experiences in
each context, mapping reflective individual growth and development as competent
practitioners, supported by the expertise of Australian and German academics in
the fields of social work and education. Recommendations for future development
and practices are provided for implementation in Australian and German schools.
