Content

This text
facilitates the exchange of knowledge, skills, and understanding of best
practices between German and Australian school-based social workers and
educators, working collaboratively to provide a high-quality educational
experience for their students. Expertise from Germany and two NSW teacher
universities provides the opportunity to triangulate rural, metropolitan, and
international perspectives on the role and relationship between school-based
social workers and educators, drawing on current practices in Germany and the
Australian UNE’s Social Workers in Schools (SWiS) project. The text explores
and sheds light on the challenges and differences in social work and education
language narratives when referring to student behaviors, and highlights areas
of practice—including understandings, differences, and similarities—and how best to
overcome them. Case studies are used to illustrate participants’ experiences in
each context, charting reflective individual growth and development as competent
practitioners, supported by the expertise of Australian and German academics in
the fields of social work and education. Recommendations for future development
and practices are provided for implementation in Australian and German schools.
