About the project

ProDiT-Projects for the Digital Transformation

The way people work and live is changing due to two significant trends: the digital era and the organizational shift towards projects. We live in a projectized and digitalized world. The adaptation of organizations (e.g. companies, but also universities), processes, and technologies is forcing a change process with a tremendous pace on people, companies and nations. Digital transformation is one of the major challenges for companies, society and education. Consequently, it requires new forms of management. In order to cope with disruptive elements and jump innovations, projects have proven to be a good tool and a major organizational pattern for digital transformation. The Knowledge Alliance "Projects for the Digital Transformation - ProDiT" is building a community, training and knowledge cluster of universities, companies and other partners that will provide the required competences for project management for digital transformation. The consortium is focusing on a common competency model for digital transformation, a maturity model for organizational development and a sustainability canvas which allows the project to achieve the intended impact. Relevant (agile) project management methodology is compiled and refined. Other relevant aspects are the international, intercultural and interdisciplinary competences that are indispensable in a project. To facilitate the educational efforts, the higher education concept of a cross-border virtual Master and PhD School will be linked to the corporate training programs of enterprises.

In order to manage digital transformation with projects, the following issues and research questions need to be addressed:

  • What are the relevant competences for "Managing the Digital Transformation" (MDT)? And how can we reflect their dynamic change and their complexity?
  • How do organizations need to be transformed to be able to cope with the digital change? How can we assess their maturity?
  • How can we deal with the fast growth of knowledge in our projects and organizations?
  • How do we keep the impact of transformation in mind? How do we guarantee sustainability?

The Knowledge Alliance ProDiT delivers three core outcomes to address these issues:

  • First, it develops frameworks and standards that enable the definition of training needs and educational gaps. This is done by the definition of a competency model for digital transformation (CMDT), a digital transformation maturity model (DTMM) for organizations and projects, and a Digital Sustainability Canvas.
  • Second, it creates the learning materials that support lecturers and trainers to develop educational programs. These programs fulfill the need of students and professionals to develop their competences.
  • Third, the development with a co-production approach of industry and academia in open communities of practice (OpenCoPs) serves the need for learning materials and courses with a very high relevance and fit to the professional field.
