About the project

According to the Online Access Act (OZG) of 14.08.2017, administrative services must also be provided online from 2022. In the field of education, this results in requirements for university administrations to digitalize processes with students as their customers. There is an urgent need for action to develop practicable and practical solutions, particularly in connection with international student mobility. Ideally, they should be developed in collaboration with the universities in order to utilize their expertise and ultimately achieve greater acceptance. Many universities have revised their campus management systems (CaMS) or introduced new ones in recent years. In doing so, they have developed various components and gained expertise that form an important basis for the implementation of the OZG in the higher education sector.

The "PIM - Platform for International Student Mobility" project is based on the results of a preliminary project in 2019. This preliminary project delivered two important results, which now form the basis for a minimum viable product (MVP). Firstly, a comprehensive specification including an architectural vision was developed. Key elements of this architectural vision are

  • Connection of the CaMS of the German universities to EMREX and EWP
  • Germany-wide consolidation of information on modules and recognitions
  • recognition in a standardized form on the basis of ELMO
  • Personal artifact storage for students, e.g. for certificates and other evidence (with the prospect of digital credentials)

Secondly, in the preliminary project, the participating universities prepared feasibility studies for components that are required for an overall system. The proof of concept for these isolated components was thus provided by various partners. This represents the first step towards an overall system that can be used by all universities in Germany. The PIM project is being carried out at Fachhochschule Dortmund in close cooperation with the DAAD IMKD project ManDEE, which is the pilot user for the PIM platform.
