P.A.S.S. - Practical instructor training for school social work

Germany's first advanced training program of this kind for school social workers

The Faculty of Applied Social Studies(Opens in a new tab)  and the Municipal Coordination Office for School Social Work of the City of Dortmund(Opens in a new tab)  have been working together since 2010. The new P.A.S.S. qualification course has now been jointly designed and was launched on 26.11.2025. The training course lasts one year and is aimed at school social workers who are currently or will be working as practical supervisors for students in the practical semester of their social work degree.

Prof. Dr. Nicole Tigges(Opens in a new tab) , Professor of School Social Work in the faculty, emphasized the excellent cooperation during the welcome address and highlighted the pioneering nature of the P.A.S.S. qualification program. It is the first advanced training course of its kind for school social workers in Germany.

Qualification program consisting of five modules that build on each other

In five modules that build on each other, P.A.S.S. imparts sound theoretical and practical skills for the role of practice guidance in the field of school social work. The aim is to sharpen students' understanding of the tasks and responsibilities of a practice supervisor in social work, to expand their own specialist knowledge and to develop a reflective understanding of social, legal and ethical issues that may arise in their daily work.
