"Fachwissen zum Mittag" enters its fifth round

Published

Since 2021, the library and the Graduate Center of the University of Applied Sciences have been organizing the online lecture series "Fachwissen zum Mittag". Experts from various institutions and faculties - sometimes supported by external speakers - talk about various aspects of the complex topic of scientific publishing. The target group is primarily all (junior) researchers at Fachhochschule Dortmund, but external interested parties are also welcome. All events start at 12 noon, the presentations usually last 45 minutes, followed by plenty of time for discussion and questions.

For the fifth edition, the organization team has once again changed the concept slightly to make the events more practical and interactive. The series starts on February 25 with the topic "Support from the library and Graduate Center - How we support you through to publication (and beyond)". Johanna Munkelt and Eva Schameitat (Library) and Iris Bosold-Grund (Graduate Center) will present the services offered by their institutions, give tips and answer questions.

The other presentations this year will deal with topics such as writer's block, open access and the use of AI for publications. "Our aim for 2025 is to shed light on all important phases of the publication process and always point out specific support services," explains librarian Eva Schameitat, who is helping to organize the series. "It was also important to us to increase the number of internal speakers once again, as we have many great experts at the university." This year, they will be presenting a mix of new topics and those that have been on the program in previous years. This means that new participants will also have the opportunity to find out everything they need to know.

Registration for the series is now open throughout the year. Those who already registered in the previous year will continue to receive invitations to the Webex meetings for the presentations in 2025. In addition, the participation links for spontaneous participants will always be published on the "Fachwissen" page one day before the lecture. Interested parties can also use the registration form to inform the organization team of their wishes for next year's topic selection.
