In the Innovative Teaching department, we are committed to researching and testing new approaches to teaching. Social, cultural and technological developments constantly present lecturers at Fachhochschule Dortmund with new challenges and at the same time offer new opportunities. This is where we come in: We support lecturers in meeting changing requirements while incorporating the latest developments in (teaching) research.
Our offers
Onboarding for new lecturers and university didactics training
The academic and university didactics counseling department is dedicated to the academic personnel development of (newly appointed) lecturers. The Institute for Higher Education Didactics supports lecturers in developing and expanding their professional teaching skills and understanding their own role as a lecturer. Being newly appointed at a university means getting to know a new organizational culture and having to adapt to different roles and competence expectations. Lecturers navigate between the expectations of the scientific community, students and university staff. This area builds on the existing onboarding program of perspective management to provide newly appointed lecturers with even better support during this phase. Further information can be found on the intranet(Opens in a new tab) .

AGORA Teaching profession at vocational colleges
For several years now, there has been an enormous shortage of teachers at industrial-technical vocational colleges. Particularly in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and automotive engineering, forecasts by the NRW Ministry of Schools and Education indicate that there will be an unmet demand for teachers over the next 10 years. Due to this development, the Fachhochschule Dortmund, together with the Technical University of Dortmund and the University of Siegen, has created pathways for students that enable a smooth transition into the teacher training program. The department cooperates closely with the technical faculties of Fachhochschule Dortmund as well as universities and vocational colleges in the region in order to inspire interested students to enter the teaching profession and reduce the structural shortage of teachers.
You can find detailed information on our intranet page(Opens in a new tab) .
Offers for students:
- Counseling on studying to become a teacher at TU Dortmund University and the University of Siegen
- Placement of internships at vocational colleges in the region
- Referral to cooperation partners and networks
