Information

The importance of energy was recently highlighted by the massive power outages in Portugal and Spain. But how can cities and their inhabitants prepare for the future? How can the energy transition succeed? What opportunities do new technologies offer in everyday life, in companies and in urban development?

These questions will be the focus of the themed evening on the future of energy, in which professors from Fachhochschule Dortmund will also be involved. The themed evening "Compact knowledge: Future energy" will take place at DEW21's TwentyOne event space (Günter-Samtlebe-Platz 1, in the city center between Ostwall and Südwall). The City of Dortmund is organizing it together with the project "Power2Change: Mission Energiewende" and other partners from science and Business Studies in the "Science Year 2025 - Future Energy". Prof. Dr. Torsten Füg from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Prof. Dr. Sönke Gößling from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will be representing Fachhochschule Dortmund. They will provide information on the topic: "Energy supply at home - How private households benefit from the energy market and new technologies".

The themed evening will start at 7 pm with a welcome from the City of Dortmund's Science Officer, Angela Märtin, and a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Christian Rehtanz, TU Dortmund University, on energy supply in urban areas. This will be followed by a discussion at interactive themed tables on what the future of energy in cities, companies and households could look like and how it could be shaped.

These are the theme tables

  • "Energy supply in urban areas" - Prof. Dr. Christian Rehtanz, TU Dortmund University
  • "Conflicts in the energy transition - better solutions through planning, participation and paths to acceptance?" - Sarah Friese, Institute for Regional and Urban Development Research
  • "Climate city contract - How Dortmund wants to become climate neutral" - Marion Röcke, City of Dortmund
  • "Companies under power - the energy transition at Wilo" - Markus Kauling, Wilo SE
  • "Energy supply at home - How private households benefit from the energy market and new technologies" - Dr. Torsten Füg and Prof. Dr. Sönke Gößling, Fachhochschule Dortmund

In three discussion rounds of 15 minutes each, guests will have the opportunity to take part in several themed tables, to delve deeper into a key topic or to ask questions. The most important findings will then be summarized in a lightning round. The event will conclude at 7 p.m. with an opportunity for informal networking.
