Science to marvel at, try out, and get involved in: At the second “Science Night,” Dortmund’s Night of Science, the Dortmunder U will be transformed into a giant research lab on Friday, September 25, 2026. Around 50 partners, including Fachhochschule Dortmund and Arts, will bring experiments, robots, artificial intelligence, music, art, and science to every floor—from 4 p.m. until late into the night.
Just one week after Museum Night, Dortmund will have its next opportunity for a special journey of discovery: “Science Night” combines science with entertainment and hands-on activities. Children, teens, and adults can experiment, tinker, discuss, marvel, and experience science in a whole new way. The events are free and, with a few exceptions, open to all without registration.
A Program for All Generations
Around 50 program partners are collaborating to organize “Science Night”: from A for the Academy for Theater and Digitality to Z for the Zoo! Dortmund’s universities and scientific institutes, along with many other educational partners, will offer lectures, concerts, hands-on activities, field trips, and workshops well into the night. There’s plenty to discover, especially for families. Among other things, children and teens can program a robot, experiment with 3D printing, build a foldable microscope to examine the tiniest objects, explore digital worlds, solder a circuit, or mix their own skin cream. STEM stations invite visitors to tinker, solder, and discover. The hands-on stations are open from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Focus on Artificial Intelligence
Discussions and lectures invite you to reflect on and join the conversation about artificial intelligence (AI). What opportunities and risks does AI hold for our health, and who makes better diagnoses—humans or machines? How is AI changing our society, and what impact does it have on art? These topics will be explored and discussed starting at 6 p.m. high above the rooftops of Dortmund in the Brauturm.
See and Try It Out
In the “Immersive Room,” visitors can experience the immune system after a heart attack as a three-dimensional experience through images and sound—an exciting joint project between Fachhochschule Dortmund and the Leibniz Institute for Analytical Sciences (ISAS). The storyLab kiU at Fachhochschule Dortmund offers exclusive insights into the digital production of visuals, sound, and programming.
Highlights at the Brauturm
At the Science Slam starting at 9 p.m., researchers will use all the tools of art to entertainingly summarize their findings, moderated by Rainer Holl. Afterward, during the Pub Quiz, participants will compete in spontaneously formed teams in a relaxed bar atmosphere to come up with the best answers to imaginative questions from the worlds of (pop) culture and science.
