What makes us special
Project orientation, networking and good equipment
Fachhochschule Dortmund has the largest and most broadly based Faculty of Design in Germany. The fields of concept, design, technology, science and key skills are closely interlinked in holistic forms of teaching. Our study programs are project-oriented and projects are supervised individually. We attach great importance to interdisciplinary cooperation and practical relevance to the professional fields for which we
we train students for. One of our aspirations is to introduce you to the diversity of different genres and areas of work in all our study programs.
Our faculty, which is housed in a beautiful listed building, is excellently equipped in terms of both staff and technology. We offer workshops, media laboratories, film and photo studios, a cinema auditorium, a surround sound studio, computer workstations, a library and a video archive. The film studio has a green screen, analog and digital cameras as well as appropriate lighting and sound equipment.
The course is practice-oriented and takes place largely in the workshops.
City and region
Visible in public spaces
The Faculty of Design is closely integrated into the city and its surroundings. We benefit from the positive reputation of Fachhochschule Dortmund. This offers attractive opportunities for cooperation with personalities, institutions and companies from the fields of culture, Business Studies and science. In addition, as part of a large urban conurbation, Dortmund is culturally very diverse and multifaceted.
Thanks to the good connection between Fachhochschule Dortmund and the city, the work of the Faculty of Design in particular is visible in many places in the public space. Design students are not only involved in publications and symposia, but also in trade fair appearances and exhibitions, for example.
Internationality
We promote international exchange
We promote the mobility of our students beyond national borders and support international cooperation and projects. To this end, we offer excursions and facilitate stays abroad. Thanks to our cooperation with numerous foreign universities, there are many points of contact.
Internationally renowned speakers regularly come to our faculty as part of lecture series, symposia and conferences.
Counseling and support
Mentoring, e-learning and career service
Fachhochschule Dortmund offers its students a unique advisory concept. In the first two semesters, personal mentors are on hand to guide and support you in order to facilitate a successful start and progression of your studies. In the second semester, you will have a progress meeting so that any problems can be identified as early as possible.
In addition, an extensive advisory network, e-learning offers and the Maths HelpDesk provide support.
The Career Service at Fachhochschule Dortmund also offers you numerous opportunities to further develop your skills and hone your personal profile. For example, you can develop your key social or methodological skills and expand your foreign language and IT knowledge in interdisciplinary events.
Studying as a phase of life
Family, health and culture
Fachhochschule Dortmund supports students who have responsibility for children or care for relatives. We offer childcare and advise you on financial and organizational issues.
The health of our students is important to us, so they can take advantage of the university sports program, among other things. Our water dispensers are also available free of charge after sport.
We want students to look beyond the confines of the university. For example, you can attend performances at Theater Dortmund free of charge with your student ID.
