Medical informatics deals with questions such as
- you can store medical knowledge
- you can apply medical knowledge automatically
Independent research in cooperation with the University of Duisburg-Essen
In the four-semester Master's degree program in Medical Informatics, you will deepen your existing computer science knowledge with medical-technical aspects. Four main areas of study are knowledge-based systems, scientific projects, distributed and mobile systems and machine learning.
The first year of study is mainly theoretical, with the Formal Structures module. At the same time, you will apply your new knowledge in your own projects, which can range from the development of digital platforms to e-health strategies. You will use our modern laboratories and networked infrastructure.
In your second year, you will work on a challenging research and development project in the field of health informatics or medical-technical informatics. You can carry out the so-called Master's project within or outside the university, for example abroad. You complete your studies with a research-oriented Master's thesis.
Fachhochschule Dortmund offers the Master's study program in Medical Informatics together with the University of Duisburg-Essen. We use this cooperation for joint research projects, among other things, which are closely linked to university medicine.
Master of Science, which qualifies you for doctorates and management positions
After successfully completing the program, you will receive a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree. You will receive a joint certificate from the Fachhochschule Dortmund and the University of Duisburg-Essen.
You will thus fulfill the formal requirements for a doctorate and at the same time be qualified for demanding activities in many areas of medical informatics.
Medical informatics is unique because
the specialization in the Master's degree has a high degree of practical relevance and focuses increasingly on research and project work that is related to the future field of work.
