Project-oriented, interdisciplinary and networked

The course is interdisciplinary, application and project-oriented. The standard period of study is four semesters. In the first three semesters, the course includes both compulsory and compulsory elective modules and two projects as well as a Master's thesis in the fourth semester.

The compulsory modules cover the fundamentals of mathematics and systems theory as well as measurement technology, signal and image processing and artificial intelligence. There is always a close connection to specific applications with a medical background. Generally valid information technology concepts are taught and illustrated using the example of innovative applications with an interdisciplinary character.

In the compulsory elective modules, you will delve deeper into specific topics or areas. Possible areas of specialization include machine learning, robotics, human-machine interfaces or rehabilitation technology. In the project work, you will work independently, but in competent and committed teams, on topics of your choice. The Master's thesis in the fourth semester concludes the course. The thesis can be carried out as part of a research and development project or in cooperation with commercial enterprises.

The Ruhr Master School (RMS) offers you additional opportunities to sharpen your profile. The RMS bundles and networks the expertise of the Fachhochschule Dortmund, Bochum University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the Westfälische Hochschule in Gelsenkirchen in the fields of engineering and computer science. International project-oriented components, summer schools and specialist conferences complement these offerings.
