Abstract
The monitoring of the blood pressure of patients is a very important tool for medical treatments. Especially, the continuous non-invasive monitoring provides useful information for time series analysis and long-term signal processing. Simple wearable sensors support this type of blood pressure measurement and provide high comfort for patients. Such sensors can be combined with smart devices and support various use cases in individualized health management. This paper presents and discusses the concept of a non-invasive blood pressure measurement based on piezoelectric sensors. This type of sensors promises to required features for medical wearables. The paper presents the state-of-the-art in non-invasive blood pressure measurement based on wearable sensors and the prior research on piezoelectric sensors, especially for pressure measurement. A concept for a blood pressure measurement system with all relevant components is presented and the design decisions are justified by comparison with the state-of-the-art. The presented concept is currently researched and the paper presents first findings of this work-inprogress. An important part of the paper is the presentation of the research design for the development and validation of the blood pressure measurement system.
