Abstract

From 13 to 19 September 2025, Xxpress Gallery in Seoul presented Taste Against Taste, an exhibition that turned the concept of “taste” into a multifaceted exploration of culture, identity, and expression. In Korean, taste extends far beyond the culinary—it can describe a mood, a person, or even a fleeting moment—and the show used this expanded meaning as a lens for dialogue between European and Korean design.

The project began with a two-day silkscreen workshop (10–11 September 2025) at the ScreenArtAgency SAA in Paju. Led by Prof. Lars Harmsen, the workshop brought together designers from Germany, Poland, and South Korea to collaboratively create the posters. Contributions by Lars Harmsen, Kuki Iwański, Martyna Wędzicka-Obuchowicz, Hezin O, Lee Sanha & Jung Sung-hun, and Lee Yunho from DDBBMM made visible how European and Korean graphic traditions interweave.

As part of The Design Network 2025, the project demonstrated how international collaboration can generate new forms of visual language. By staging “taste” as something aesthetic, social, and relational, Taste Against Taste offered not only a gallery experience but also a process-driven exploration—rooted in the workshop and unfolding in the exhibition.
