The IT landscapes of companies today are characterized by enormous heterogeneity. Experience shows that, due to historical growth, acquisitions and function-oriented rather than process-oriented development, corporations have hundreds of systems, databases and data lakes. Even smaller companies need several systems for simple processes. These "data silos" prevent the data they contain from being used for integrated evaluations. Fraunhofer ISST has developed the Sherlock Bot in order to leverage the wealth of data available in most companies with minimal effort. The tool uses machine learning to enable intuitive networked queries of many data sources without the user having to master the formulation of complex query statements.
