Transculturality essentially means understanding
different cultures not as self-contained, uniform
and therefore often contradictory models, but as
different, yet interwoven forms of thought and
action. By bringing theater-makers and students
of performing arts together, we hope to explore
transculturality as a starting point for a creative
journey. Together we can raise the question of
what artistic potential and possibilities for action
can arise from this practice.
We will discuss different forms of transcultural
curatorial practices in the context of theater and/
or exhibition making, analyze and reflect on them
together and try them out in practice. In doing
so, we will ask about specific challenges in the
conception of projects. We will look at possible
forms of audience participation: How can non-
hierarchical access be created for all actors?
How can different positions be made audible and
visible in an equal manner?
On the assumption that every project starts from
scratch, but nevertheless is influenced by the
specific conditions of its participants and the
larger cultural framework, we want to explore
democratic forms and participatory approaches
together and think about possible forms of
cultural production and presentation in the here
and now, as well as in the future.
