Community gardening is a growing trend in cities and neighborhoods. The resulting green oases open up numerous opportunities for quality of life, urban ecology and sustainable coexistence. In many places, the question therefore arises: 'How can such gardens also be created here? This guide leads through a social activation process for community gardening in five practical steps. It is aimed at city administrations and civil society organizations and stakeholders who want to promote community gardening in their city. The aim of social activation is to initiate new community garden projects and empower city residents to implement them in a self-organized way. At the heart of the activation is the targeted approach of multipliers who carry the message to the various population groups. The citizens reached in this way are brought into the exchange and gradually supported in implementing their own garden projects. Participatory methods for planning and implementing new garden projects are derived on the basis of practical experience and scientific findings from psychology and social sciences. Recommendations for the continuation of activation efforts and a list of literature and websites round off the guide.
