About the project
The interest of many young people in religious topics seems to be growing at present. Conservative as well as politico-religious movements seem to be gaining in popularity. More radical views are also playing an ever greater role. However, the public debates on these issues are now primarily focused on security policy debates. However, there is no systematic and empirical analysis that focuses on the phenomenon from the perspective of young people. The aim of the research project is to examine the phenomenon of Salafism from the perspective of youth culture, focusing on the gender perspective. One of the crucial questions for clarifying the phenomenon will be what the reasons are for the strengthening of a movement that has been present in the German public for around ten years.
Benefits of the project:
Based on the findings of the research project, scientific and socio-political recommendations for action can be derived in order to spread and/or optimize prevention programs in a more targeted manner.
Central questions of the project:
- What are the reasons for the strengthening of stricter views?
- Are the criteria of the youth cultural aspects fulfilled?
- Why do more and more adolescents and young adults feel that they belong to a very strictly regimented branch of Islam?
- Why do girls and young women feel that they belong to structures where there is a strict separation of the sexes?
- What prevention and intervention measures can be derived that are relevant for politics and civil society?
