About the project
Accidents, loads on roads and bridges, vehicle breakdowns due to wear and tear and increased fuel consumption lead to considerable damage throughout Germany. The reasons are non-compliance with load distribution plans and load securing regulations, punctual overloading, axle overloading and unrecognized defects in the vehicle. The project aims to investigate and evaluate possible solutions to these problems on trailers (combinations).
The aim of the project is to use the fusion of sensor data to determine characteristic values that can be used to detect problematic conditions. Different characteristic values for load distribution, axle loads and defects in the brakes, wheel bearings or tires are to be determined. In addition, the road condition is also to be detected and some of this data stored in the MDM database. With the help of the characteristic values, drivers can then be warned of defects or incorrect loading in the future, road maintenance and detours can be initiated and the load on roads and bridges can be reduced. By knowing the load and load distribution of the combination, conclusions can be drawn about the load on the infrastructure.
In the course of this, measurements with different sensors (tire pressure and temperature, pressure in the gas spring bellows, GPS, accelerations) are carried out and recorded. This will be used to determine which sensors and which sensor data fusion concepts are necessary to optimize load distribution or detect errors in distribution and road conditions. Different calculation models for various sensor concepts ranging from inexpensive retrofit solutions to complex sensor concepts for sensitive goods will be created.
