About the person
Dr. Jennifer Tiede is an educational scientist and media educator with a passion for games of all kinds. She teaches and researches in the fields of game studies, game-based learning and media education. Other research interests include augmented and virtual reality, media education skills and international comparative research.
Since September 2024, she has been Professor of Game Studies & Digital Knowledge at the Fachhochschule Dortmund, Faculty of Design. Previously, she was an academic councilor at the Chair of School Pedagogy at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. There, she taught game-based learning, gamification and augmented reality in the classroom as part of the teacher training program and supervised doctoral students on questions of scientific research methodology.
Jennifer Tiede has been involved in various international and national research projects on media education topics funded by the EU (Horizon2020, Erasmus+) and the BMBF, among others. One area of interest is international comparative research into media education skills in teacher training. The second research focus is on the development, testing and evaluation of digital media and games in international educational contexts. In the Horizon2020 project ARETE(Opens in a new tab) , for example, she was jointly responsible for the scientific evaluation of several pilot studies on the effectiveness of augmented reality-based learning games in elementary school with around 2000 pupils in eleven European countries. In other projects, she has also researched the link between fun games and the pedagogical demands of teaching and learning processes and the opportunities and problems associated with the integration of various digital media in educational contexts.
