Relocation

The Graduate Center has moved! The Fachhochschule Dortmund is thus reacting to the increased space requirements. Following the move, the Graduate Center can now be found in the new premises at Joseph-von-Fraunhofer-Straße 23. The Graduate Center has thus moved from the eastern edge of the Emil-Figge-Straße campus to the western edge.

This does not change much for you. The workshops of the Graduate Center will continue to take place in various rooms at the Fachhochschule Dortmund and you are still welcome to attend the counseling sessions on site! As before, you can find out which workshops are taking place where in the specific announcement on Ilias.

The Graduate Center is online!

"He who does not move with the times, moves with the times!" Friedrich Schiller already knew. In line with this quote, the Graduate Center at Fachhochschule Dortmund can now also be found on Instagram and LinkedIn.

The doctoral period brings with it many highs and lows.
To ensure that these diverse requirements do not put you to the test, we want to use our social media channels to provide information on various topics and show you how and where you can get support from us.
You will also find a wide range of insights on our social media channels that raise awareness of doctorates or provide insights into the everyday lives of doctoral candidates and supervising professors. We present the requirements and forms of doctorates and how you can implement them at Fachhochschule Dortmund.

With our articles on the procedure for doctorates, funding options, the supervisory relationship and much more, we not only want to provide information, but also make a doctorate more tangible through personal examples of our doctoral candidates. Take a look and get a first impression!

New and old employees

There was some restructuring in the Graduate Center in autumn 2023.
Martin de Crignis successfully completed his Master's degree and left the Graduate Center after 1 ½ years. His tasks will now be taken over by Alexander Weber, whom we warmly welcome to the Graduate Center. Alexander Weber is a Master's student at the Faculty of Design and is studying Scenography and Communication.

Edith Geuppert, who stood in for Silva Kreitschmann as a student assistant, is also leaving the Graduate Center after completing her studies. Silva Kreitschmann has returned to the Graduate Center and is once again responsible for supporting parents who are completing their doctorates.

The biggest change at the Graduate Center is the coordinating director. Since the beginning of September, Dr. Sabrina Raffenberg, who previously stood in for Dr. Anneka Esch-van Kan during her parental leave, has been in this position. The Graduate Center bids farewell to Dr. Anneka Esch-van Kan and wishes her all the best for the future.

Start of enrollment at PK NRW

The time has come! Doctoral students of the Fachhochschule Dortmund who are doing their doctorate according to their own doctoral law of the PK NRW can now enroll at the Fachhochschule Dortmund.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact the Graduate Center of the Fachhochschule Dortmund. Further information can also be found on the homepage of the PK NRW.

Events PK NRW

Since doctorates at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts have also been possible under the independent doctorate law of the Graduate Center NRW, the Graduate Center of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts has also worked closely with the Graduate Center NRW when it comes to workshops. Doctoral candidates who are also members of the PK NRW also benefit from the workshops offered there. Conversely, it is now possible for PK NRW doctoral candidates to take part in some Fachhochschule Dortmund workshops! The PK NRW workshop program can be found in the link below!

Promotion prize

In 2022, the doctorate prize for an outstanding cooperative doctorate from the various faculties of the university was awarded for the first time. It is endowed with 1,000 euros and is supported by the Fördergesellschaft der Fachhochschule Dortmund.

This year, the doctoral award was once again announced and was aimed at researchers with an excellent cooperative doctorate in German or English under the proven supervision of a professor at Fachhochschule Dortmund, which was successfully defended in 2022 and graded at least "magna cum laude".

This year, the doctoral prize goes to Dr. Nadine Richter for her dissertation "Being mindful, living sustainable: Relationships between mindfulness, well-being and pro-environmental behavior". The official award ceremony took place during the annual academic celebration on November 28, 2023. We congratulate Dr. Nadine Richter on this great award!

The call for applications for the 2024 doctoral prize has now also been published, so that applications can already be submitted. The Doctorate Award 2024 refers to doctorates that were successfully defended in 2023. Further information can be found under the following link.

Announcement for the upcoming DART Symposium.

DART Symposium

By doctoral students for doctoral students!

The Graduate Center of the Fachhochschule Dortmund is organizing the next DART Symposium (Dortmund Applied Research and Transfer) with some of its doctoral students under the title "extending theory: impact of applied research". The symposium will take place in English on April 25, 2024 at DASA in Dortmund.

Together with renowned speakers and in the form of lectures, posters and discussions, we will explore the questions What is applied research? What are current developments in theory and practice? What role do universities of applied sciences (UAS) play with regard to their positioning in applied research?

The symposium is intended to give you, as a doctoral candidate, the opportunity to present your own research to the professional world and to get to know each other and network better. Of course, these opportunities are not only offered to doctoral candidates from Fachhochschule Dortmund, but also to doctoral candidates from other universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia.
We have issued a call for abstracts specifically for this purpose, in which doctoral candidates from Fachhochschule Dortmund and other universities in North Rhine-Westphalia can participate. Fortunately, this opportunity was accepted by many, so that visitors to the symposium can gain insights into various applied research projects.

Have we piqued your interest? Then come and visit us on April 25, 2024! Registration is now open! You can find more information at:

Doctoral student get-together

For a low-threshold opportunity to exchange information on doctoral matters, the Doctoral Representation is planning a special regulars' table in the near future. The date for the first edition of this format will be announced soon by the doctoral student representatives. If you have any questions or are interested, please email: promovierendenvertretungfh-dortmundde

Writing club stamp cards

Are you currently in the writing phase of your doctoral thesis, preparing an exposé, have to submit a paper or are worrying about writing a third-party funding application? Do you find it difficult to concentrate on writing at home or do you feel lonely?
The writing club meets on the last Wednesday of every month from 4 to 6 p.m. at Präsenz in Joseph-von-Fraunhofer Straße. Each meeting begins with a short talk on a writing-related topic that you might encounter during your doctoral studies.

Afterwards, you can work productively on your respective writing projects in a quiet atmosphere and take the opportunity to exchange ideas with other doctoral candidates and ask questions to experts. If you are interested, please register at promotionskollegfh-dortmundde.

Did you already know? Your participation in the writing club meetings can be credited towards your Graduate Center certificate. Three meetings attended will count as half a workshop. Regular participation in the writing club is therefore a good way to complete the workshops you have already attended.

Certificate program "Leadership skills"

Next year, the Graduate Center and Perspective Management at Fachhochschule Dortmund will once again be offering the "Leadership Skills" certificate program. As part of this program, 15 doctoral candidates and research assistants will have the opportunity to prepare for a leadership role both within the Fachhochschule Dortmund and for a position in Business Studies and academia through various workshops and event formats over a period of 1 ½ years. You will receive more detailed information as soon as registration opens.
