In the middle of the green Westfalenpark between the Seebühne stage and the Florianturm tower stands the seventh Mega-Sitz-WürFHel, which Fachhochschule Dortmund has erected together with its partners to mark its 50th anniversary. The striking 2.26-metre wooden structure is an ideal place to linger and watch the hustle and bustle in the park.
This anniversary WürFHel was created in collaboration with the Wilo-Foundation, which also provided financial support for the construction of WürFHel #6 at Schultenhof in Dortmund's Brünninghausen district. The extraordinary seating furniture was designed, constructed and built by the Faculty of Architecture with the help of students Betül Aslan, Rukan Eldes, Blerina Elshani, Beyza Özdemir, Tuğçe Şahin and Lena Wildoer-Valkysers. In addition to the WürFHel campaign, the Wilo-Foundation is also supporting the anniversary project "50 years - 50 trees", in which 50 trees were donated for replanting in Dortmund schoolyards and in Fredenbaumpark.
Sustainability partner of Fachhochschule Dortmund
Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Schwick, Rector of Fachhochschule Dortmund, praised the long-standing partnership with the Wilo-Foundation at the official "commissioning of this eye-catcher" in Westfalenpark. "It is one of our largest sponsors of the Deutschlandstipendium and thus actively supports our students," said Prof. Schwick. Over the past ten years, the Wilo-Foundation has awarded 170 scholarships to UAS students. In recognition of this social responsibility, the Rector presented Evi Hoch, Chairman of the Foundation, with a certificate that identifies the Wilo-Foundation as a "Sustainability Partner of Fachhochschule Dortmund".
"For us, supporting young people is about education and also about making an impact on society and connecting with the city," emphasized Evi Hoch during the presentation. This is why, for example, the Wilo-Foundation allows its scholarship holders to participate in its cultural sponsorship and invites them to cultural events that it supports. And that's why this anniversary WürFHel is right here - in the middle of the city, said Evi Hoch. "Many of Wilo's employees live in Dortmund, know this park and will be delighted to see this WürFHel here," said the Wilo-Foundation board member.
Annette Kulozik, Head of the Parks, Sports and Leisure Services Division of the City of Dortmund, added: "The WürFHel seat is an enrichment for us." The structure also protects a small young tree that Fachhochschule Dortmund has planted there. In this case, it is a birch tree.
