During their visit to Amiens City Hall, the visitors from Germany presented a UAS scarf as a gift to Mayor Hubert de Jenlis (center) in the presence of their hosts.

The success story of the exchange programme with France continues: this year, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Fachhochschule Dortmund once again organized a study trip to Amiens in the north of the neighbouring country.

From 11 to 16 May 2025, 14 students from the Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering spent a varied block week in Dortmund's twin city to gain experience abroad, to fill the cooperation with the Institut Universitaire de Technologie (IUT) at the Université de Picardie Jules Verne (UPJV) with life - and to acquire the "Production Engineering I" certificate of participation at the end.

The program included a visit to the LRCS laboratory. This is part of the network for electrochemical energy storage. Research is being carried out there on the new generation of batteries. There was also an excursion to the historic Airbus plant in Méaulte, a neighboring town of Amiens, where airframes such as the nose and fuselage are assembled for numerous models (including the A318 and A350).

The study trip also included joint cultural and sporting activities for the visitors from Dortmund with their French hosts.

The UAS students were accompanied by their lecturers Prof. Dr. Stefan Hesterberg, Prof. Dr. Ruth Kaesemann and Prof. Dr. Vincent Marciniak. The costs for the trip, including meals and accommodation in a guest house, were covered by sponsors such as the Franco-German Youth Office (DFJW), the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the City of Dortmund.

The next return visit by the French side to Dortmund is planned for November 23 to 28, 2025.
