"Day of IT" motivated to get involved

Published

In workshops, the students worked on practical applications - like here on a smartphone app.

Once a year, students traditionally immerse themselves in the world of computer science on the "Day of IT" (DoIT!) at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The faculty once again organized the event with exciting interactive workshops for 30 participants from grades 9 to 11.

Whether programming, screwing or soldering: the young people were able to decide which areas of the diverse computer science study programs they wanted to try out. No previous knowledge was required - technical interest and curiosity were enough to achieve success in a short space of time under the guidance of the faculty's dedicated staff: In the workshop "The Internet of Things", an LED traffic light controller was created on a microcontroller, in another workshop the smartphone app for a breakout game and in a third workshop a smart LED table lamp.

The DoIT! program also included a joint lunch in the canteen, after which there was the opportunity to receive counseling on the range of courses offered at the university. At the end, all participants were able to take home a bag with small giveaways such as pens and flyers as well as participation certificates.
