Students Kübra Büyükdag and Kaan Kamali were awarded 2nd prize in this year's Schlaun competition.

Their design "Senne verein(t)" impressed the jury with its well thought-out and creative concept for the reuse of the brownfield site "Am Metallwerk" in Bielefeld. The project was supervised by Hon. Prof. Stephan Lenzen, Tristan Rath, M.Sc. and Prof. Christian Moczala.

This year, students in three disciplines worked on the project: Urban Design, Architecture and Civil Engineering the respective sub-tasks, in the urban environment of an old metal factory. The aim was to develop innovative ideas for the conversion of the former metalworks site in Bielefeld - a complex task in an urban context that met with great interest: Around 70 participants from 34 German-speaking universities submitted their entries.

The award ceremony took place in the "Erbdrostenhof" in Münster - one of the most important buildings by baroque architect Johann Conrad Schlaun, who also gave his name to the Schlaun Forum. Frank Vetter, spokesman for the forum, opened the event and praised the high quality of the work submitted and the commitment of the participants.

In his speech, Prof. Sebastian Sowa from Hochschule Geisenheim University encouraged the prizewinners to think about the future together and to approach future planning tasks with respect.

Peter Bonaventura from the HTW Saar was awarded first prize in the "Urban Design" category. Janis Velten, also from the HTW Saar, was awarded first prize in the architecture category. A total of eight further prizes and recognition were awarded in the aforementioned disciplines.
