In 2023, the Museum Ostwall is putting one of its core tasks to the test: collecting. What do we collect, who is presented in the museum and who is not? How do we ensure more diversity in the art collection? The MO wants to discuss these questions together with a citizens' advisory board, which will be established next year. To this end, the MO is receiving funding from the program "Neues Sammeln. Initiative of the Cultural Foundation of the Federal States for the Intercultural Diversification of Museum Collections in Germany".
From May 2, 2023, the Museum Ostwall will be offering a fresh look at its collection from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day: under the title "Art -> Life -> Art. The Museum Ostwall yesterday, today, tomorrow", the team wants to show with the new collection presentation that the connection between art and life was already laid out when the Museum Ostwall was founded in 1949.
In the major special exhibition "Nam June Paik: I Expose the Music", the MO will focus on the live moments in the works of the internationally renowned media artist. Paik has always worked closely with other artists. These collaborations are just as much a part of the exhibition as four new works in which contemporary artists refer to Paik (duration: March 17 to August 27, 2023).
What do the Expressionists tell us today? What can we learn from them? These questions are the focus of the exhibition "Expressionism. The Horn Collection as a guest" (October 27, 2023 to February 18, 2024). The exhibition is complemented by works from the museum's own collection and the Kirchner Museum Davos.
