About the teachingarea
Architecture is the interaction of design and building construction. The one determines the other. One cannot exist without the other. The difficulty and at the same time the fascination of construction lies in putting the idea of a design that arises in the mind onto paper and then managing to turn the image in the mind into reality with the right choice of construction.
In the first two semesters, various components with different materials and types of construction are worked on using clearly structured buildings and the changing requirements and dimensions are demonstrated. The structural aspects of solid construction and traditional carpentry construction are taught. Students should feel and implement an understanding of materials and design, e.g. the opposites of solid + filigree.
From the third semester onwards, the knowledge acquired can then be supplemented, deepened and combined with their own design. As design and construction are closely linked, the task is chosen so that students can work on a building in its entirety. The focus here is on the timber frame construction, which must be designed and structurally detailed.
