What is the UrLab?
Against the backdrop of the climate crisis, the threat to democratic institutions posed by the shift to the right and disruptive technological developments, the municipal space is under strong pressure to change. The UrLab (Urban Resilience Lab) therefore focuses on the interweaving of ecological, social and democratic aspects of resilience to current crisis-related developments. The aim is to develop solutions that sustainably improve the quality of life and stability in the city of Dortmund.
Where is the UrLab located?
The UrLab is located on Bornstraße in the heart of Dortmund. The location enables seamless interaction between the university and urban society. Research findings are made accessible to all interested parties in lectures, workshops and exhibitions. Science can thus be experienced by everyone. And ideas, topics and wishes from Dortmund residents find their way into the university via the UrLab. Come along and get involved. Address: Borstraße 142, 44145 Dortmund.
How does the UrLab work?
The project pursues a transdisciplinary approach. This means that scientific perspectives are combined and applied with social knowledge. Cooperation with social actors from civil society, the economy and local politics is crucial in order to test innovative ideas in real-life experiments and - if they prove successful - to make them permanent.
What happens in the UrLab?
The UrLab sees itself as a platform for a wide range of formats that offer a variety of approaches to resilience topics. Lectures, network meetings, film evenings, exhibitions and workshops are organized in the UrLab. Innovative teaching formats with a high degree of practical relevance are also implemented in the UrLab and opened up to the public.
