3 General information on data processing
We collect and use our users' personal data only insofar as this is necessary to provide a functional website and our content and services and a legal basis allows us to do so.
Legal basis for the processing of personal data
Insofar as we obtain the consent of the data subject for the processing of personal data, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR serves as the legal basis for the processing of personal data.
Insofar as the processing of personal data is necessary to fulfill a legal obligation to which Fachhochschule Dortmund is subject, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. c GDPR serves as the legal basis.
In the event that vital interests of the data subject or another natural person require the processing of personal data, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. d GDPR serves as the legal basis.
If the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in Fachhochschule Dortmund, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR serves as the legal basis for the processing. If the processing is necessary to safeguard a legitimate interest of Fachhochschule Dortmund or a third party and if the interests, fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject do not outweigh the first-mentioned interest, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR serves as the legal basis for the processing. This does not apply if Fachhochschule Dortmund is acting in an official capacity in the corresponding processing.
Duration of storage of personal data
The personal data of the data subject will only be stored by us for as long as the purpose of the storage exists. If the processing is based on the consent of the data subject, the data will only be stored until the data subject withdraws their consent, unless there is another legal basis for the processing.
Right to rectification and erasure of personal data
The data subject has the right to obtain from us without undue delay the rectification of inaccurate personal data concerning him or her. The data subject also has the right to obtain from us the erasure of personal data concerning him or her without undue delay as soon as the purpose of the storage no longer applies or, if the processing is based on the consent of the data subject, if the data subject withdraws his or her consent and there is no other legal basis for the processing.
The data subject's personal data will also be erased if the data subject objects to the processing pursuant to Art. 21 (1) GDPR and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for the processing, if the personal data has been processed unlawfully or if erasure is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation in European or national law to which Fachhochschule Dortmund is subject.
However, personal data will not be deleted in the cases described above if the processing of personal data is necessary for the Fachhochschule Dortmund to fulfill a legal obligation imposed on it by the European or national legislator or if the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out by the Fachhochschule Dortmund in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the Fachhochschule Dortmund or if the further storage of personal data is necessary for the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims.
Right of revocation
If the processing of personal data is based on the consent of the data subject, the data subject may withdraw their consent at any time. The processing of personal data carried out until the revocation remains lawful despite the revocation.
Right to information
The data subject has the right to obtain confirmation from Fachhochschule Dortmund as to whether or not personal data concerning him or her is being processed. If this is the case, the data subject has a right to information about which personal data is involved and for what purposes it is processed. They also have a right to information about the duration of the planned storage of this data and which criteria are used to determine the storage period.
4 Statistical survey, Matomo
Scope of data processing
We use the open source software tool Matomo (formerly PIWIK) on our website to analyze the surfing behavior of our users. When individual pages of our website are accessed, the following data is stored
- two bytes of the IP address of the user's accessing system
- the website accessed
- information about the browser type and version used
- the user's operating system
- the website from which the user accessed the website (referrer)
- the date and time of access
- the subpages that are accessed from the website accessed
- the time spent on the website
- the frequency with which the website is accessed
- Websites that are accessed by the user's system via our website
The software runs exclusively on the servers of our website. Users' personal data is only stored there. The data is not passed on to third parties.
This website uses the web tracking tool Matomo to collect and store data for statistical and optimization purposes. For this purpose, generated usage information (including your anonymized IP address) is transmitted to our server and stored. This function can be deactivated in the "Matomo Opt-Out" section.
The information generated is used exclusively for statistical purposes and to improve the website and server. Your IP address is anonymized and cannot be traced back to you. It is not passed on to third parties.
The software is set so that the IP addresses are not stored in full, but two bytes of the IP address are masked. In this way, it is no longer possible to assign the shortened IP address to the accessing computer.
When a website is accessed, data about this process is stored. In detail, this is the following information: Page title, search term (through which visitors come to the page), search engines, page URL, number of pages visited, location of the visitor (country), provider, browser, operating system, screen resolution, browser plugins, visit times, visit duration, entry pages, exit pages, downloads, referring websites.
4.1 Objection to data storage
As a user, you have the option to object to tracking by Matomo at any time. (Section "Matomo opt-out")
If users have activated the option "I do not want to be tracked" in their browser, no data will be stored by Matomo.
Please note: If you delete your cookies, the opt-out cookie will also be deleted and may have to be reactivated by you.
4.2 Legal basis for the processing
The legal basis for the processing of users' personal data is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR.
4.3 Purpose of the processing
The processing of users' personal data enables us to analyze the surfing behavior of our users. By evaluating the data obtained, we are able to compile information about the use of the individual components of our website. This helps us to continuously improve our website and its user-friendliness.
4.4 Duration of storage of personal data
The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for our recording purposes. Cookies are stored on the user's computer and transmitted by it to our website. As a user, you therefore have full control over the use of cookies. You can deactivate or restrict the transmission of cookies by changing the settings in your Internet browser. Cookies that have already been saved can be deleted at any time. This can also be done automatically. If cookies are deactivated for our website, it may no longer be possible to use all functions of the website to their full extent.
5 User rights
You have the right to obtain information about the type and scope of storage associated with your visit to the website. You also have the right to object to processing, rectification, data portability, erasure and restriction of processing. Please contact the data protection officer at Fachhochschule Dortmund.

7 Social media content, Flockler
To display social media content on our website, we use the service Flockler, Flockler Oy Rautatienkatu 26 B 32, 33100, Tampere Finland, which aggregates relevant social media channels and displays them on our website ("social media wall", in this case a collection of different posts from the social media channels of Fachhochschule Dortmund). Flockler itself does not store any personal data of users of this website. Flockler does not use cookies or tracking codes.
When Flockler is used on our website or digital channel, the CloudFront service from Amazon Web Services (AWS) receives the incoming data traffic and stores the visitor's IP address in its logs for a short period of time. Storing the IP address is necessary to ensure that Flockler and its digital channels can protect against an unusually high number of accesses and any malicious activity patterns and thus serves to maintain the functionality of the service and protect against possible cyberattacks. The IP address is automatically deleted from CloudFront's logs and is not processed by Flockler in any way. Further information can be found in Flockler's privacy policy at Flockler Privacy Policy(Opens in a new tab) .
Depending on the platform, the social media services may store information about you if you choose to interact with the content (e.g. play a video or visit the social media page). This also applies if you are not logged in to the respective social media provider or do not have an account with them. We would like to point out that, as the provider of the pages, we have no knowledge of the content of the transmitted data or its use by the social media provider. Further information on this can be found in the provider's privacy policy.
The Flockler plugin is used on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the widest possible visibility in social media.
