Vera Kemper succeeds Martin Hübner

Martin Hübner closes, Vera Kemper opens: As Head of Facility Management, Vera Kemper is now also responsible for the doors and locks of Fachhochschule Dortmund - in addition to numerous other tasks.

The new head of the Facility Management department has officially been in office since the beginning of the year: Vera Kemper is Martin Hübner's successor.

When Vera Kemper used to be out and about at Fachhochschule Dortmund, she paid attention to lettering and wordmarks, for example, and kept an eye out for sponsorship opportunities.

She still sees these things now - as the former head of the Marketing department in the University Communications division, she can't get rid of them so quickly - but now she has even more in her sights: The buildings. The paths and areas. The parking lots. The trees and other plants. Cables, pipes, lamps, locks. The entire architectural and technical structure of Fachhochschule Dortmund.

She has been working her way in since August 2024 and took over the management of the department from Martin Hübner at the turn of the year.

Farewell after 43 years

Martin Hübner started at Fachhochschule Dortmund in 1981. Very analog. As an employee in "Department II, Academic Affairs", he "ran around the table with a rubber finger to compile the documents for the Senate".

Around 2010, he remembers, "we thought there would be no more major innovations for the time being. There was no need for a university development plan back then. Things were running smoothly."

Then the student numbers changed, digitalization took hold, the buildings demanded more and more attention and Corona presented previously unknown challenges.

His last major task was to work on the location issue with the needs analysis and calculations of possible locations.

New department, new tasks

The location issue will continue to occupy Facility Management. In addition to the existing departments "Commercial and Infrastructural Facility Management", "Planning, Construction, Occupational Safety" and "Technical Facility Management", a fourth department will be added: "Site Development and Climate Protection".

This means that the Climate Protection Managers Dorothee Albrecht and Karen Isabell Müller from the Faculty of Applied Social Studies and the Crisis Management Office with Nadine Fasching are also moving to Facility Management. In future, the topic of energy management will also be located here.

In addition, the Facilities Management department will also take over the central services, including the mailroom, transport service and university print shop, which were previously located in Organization and Perspective Management.
