Strong contrasts at the Podest work show

Published

Fascinating composition: In this photo from the series "Suspiciously well dressed" by Lea Klein, the clear lines of the composition cleverly counteract the curved body contours.

Well over 100 works from the winter semester were on display at the Podest exhibition at Max-Ophüls-Platz. As always, the show was very diverse. However, there was one similarity between many of the works: strong contrasts.

In rooms along many corridors on almost all floors of the spacious design building, the doors were open and cast an inviting glow of light into the dark corridor in the evening. Behind them, the works of more than 100 students from all study programs offered insights into the many facets of the faculty.

Light-dark contrasts

Effectively staged lights, from left: "RUX" by Sophia Schachtner, "Spine and Disk" by Leon Gensler and "Waterlily" by Mira Jasper.

Emotional contrasts

Left: "The fruit that rolled off the table as if it suspected something" by Juliane Spula: The projection on the tablecloth behind the table with the crushed fruit shows a hand crushing fruit.

Center: "The solution to all your problems" by Katharina Schulz, Laurent Doepke and Vico Vincent Wiese: The student stands behind the stand like a barker, extolling the virtues of the exorbitantly expensive drink "Solution".

Right: "Ulcer" by Marie Schönenborn and Janina Hudde: A skin-like material is stretched into a metal frame, and foot switches can be used to send impulses to the installation that seem to strain the material.

Temporal contrasts

Left and center: In "Paraphrase", a student named "Titian" copies the famous photo "Haverstraw" by Lee Friedlander from 1966 - with a few changes.

Right: For the series "Polaroid of Thoughts", Emma Holtmann has added thoughts about the past and present to old Polaroid photos.
