Starting September 30, 2026, the library at the Emil-Figge-Str. 44 and Sonnenstraße locations will be open significantly longer than before. This will be made possible by unstaffed hours in the evenings and all day on Saturdays. This concept is called “Open Library.” From Monday through Saturday, the library will then be open until 10 p.m. —longer than ever before. At the Max-Ophüls-Platz location, this has already been in place since April 2026 and has been well received by library users.
During Open Library hours, visitors can enter the library after registering at the entrance with their FHCard or library card and a four-digit PIN (at Max-Ophüls-Platz, a key must be borrowed from the receptionists instead). The PIN is the same number combination required for lending. Users can set this themselves through their library account.
Study spaces, media, and scanners can be used as usual during Open Library hours. Media are lent and returned using the self-checkout kiosks.
