Eleven representatives from regional companies met with researchers from Fachhochschule Dortmund during an exclusive discussion with a guided tour of the laboratory for high-voltage technology. The aim was to explore opportunities for cooperation in the areas of research, development and transfer.
The latest laboratory discussion at Fachhochschule Dortmund showed how an idea can open doors for future cooperation. The event brought company representatives from Dortmund and the surrounding area to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering - in a deliberately small group to enable an intensive exchange.
After a welcome from Claudia Scholz (Transfer Office) with a brief introduction to the concept of the event and a profile of Fachhochschule Dortmund, Deputy Director Marcus Ingenfeld provided information about the tasks and services offered by the Transfer Office.
Focus on energy storage systems
Prof. Dr. Bernd Runge then introduced his Faculty of Electrical Engineering as Dean. Prof. Dr. Stefan Kempen gave an overview of the faculty's current research activities before focusing on his own research - including high-voltage batteries and large energy storage systems - which he then demonstrated to the visitors in the hall of the high-voltage laboratory.
The format was organized by the transfer office of Fachhochschule Dortmund, which had already held its first lab talk as a pilot in 2023. This time, companies that Prof. Kempen had named as potential cooperation partners for his research were specifically invited.
Ideal for conversations
The guests quickly appreciated the small group size: The manageable setting in the high-voltage laboratory in particular made it possible to get to know each other in depth, exchange ideas intensively and have open discussions at eye level. In a relaxed atmosphere, the participants identified specific starting points for joint projects.
The conclusion was consistently positive. The transfer office is therefore planning to continue the event format as a series. The aim remains to give companies a practical insight into the world of research at Fachhochschule Dortmund and to open up new avenues for collaboration.
