Scholarship ceremony

Thank you for "a piece of peace, dignity and choice"

UAS Rector Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel: "A visible sign that you believe in young talent."

Almost 100 Fachhochschule Dortmund students will receive a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship in the 2025/26 funding year, giving them 300 euros a month. They celebrated together with their supporters at the Westfälischer Industrieklub Dortmund.

To the digital piano sounds of Florian Zeidler, 94 scholarship holders and 36 donors raised their glasses and toasted each other - the former as a gesture of their confidence in the students' future, the latter as a thank you and an expression of their motivation.

Sponsors and patrons came together in the dignified ambience of the Westphalian Industrial Club.

"Curiosity, perspectives, courage"

"Your support," Rector Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel addressed the donors, "is a visible sign that you believe in young talent. Our students bring curiosity, new perspectives and the courage to think differently and you support them in doing so."

She acknowledged that the students stand for the values "that are particularly important to us as a university of applied sciences: To take responsibility, to learn in a practical way, to think outside the box. With every project, every idea, every initiative, you are already helping to shape our university and our region."

"More lightness"

One of the sponsored students also spoke to those present. She wishes to remain anonymous in this article. The scholarship has given her "a little more ease", she said, "and a life without having to constantly do the math. Not every decision was and is suddenly a question of cost." For many, the support means "a bit of peace, a bit of dignity, a bit of choice in their own lives."

On the way home, donors and recipients took home wooden FH cubes and a certificate from the Ministry of Education as a souvenir - as well as many contacts, fresh input and new opportunities.

The Deutschlandstipendium

Companies, foundations and private individuals recruited by Fachhochschule Dortmund donate half of the financial support for the Deutschlandstipendium. The other half is provided by the BMFTR (Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space).
Good academic performance is one of the criteria used to select scholarship holders. However, a special educational background or social commitment can also be positively considered. The funding period is two semesters (one year).
In order to make this grant available to even more students, Fachhochschule Dortmund is now also offering a donation scholarship. It enables individuals to contribute smaller amounts to a joint Deutschlandstipendium. You can find more information here(Opens in a new tab) .
