Fachhochschule Dortmund and TU Dortmund University presented their joint sustainability award to the FH Purchasing Department this year. At the award ceremony in the kostBar on Emil-Figge-Straße, fresh contacts between the universities sprouted and the idea of sustainability blossomed anew.

Every year since 2024, the cooperating sustainability offices of the University of Applied Sciences (FH) and the Technical University (TU) have recognized the special commitment of an institution, department or person from both universities with the sustainability award called the Impact Cup(Opens in a new tab) . At the TU, the Sustainability Committee of the Faculty of Computer Science was chosen.

Great impetus for change

According to the organizers, the Fachhochschule Dortmund's Purchasing team pays careful attention to the greatest possible sustainability in production, transport, communication and many other areas in its task of procuring goods and services. In this way, the department "has a major transformative effect on the sustainable development of Fachhochschule Dortmund" and also has an impact on business partners in terms of social responsibility.

In addition to their actual work, the employees have "participated in the participatory processes for sustainable development", writes the jury. Individual employees have been involved in non-disciplinary projects such as improving the infrastructure for cyclists on campus.

In her words of thanks on behalf of the department, team leader Marie Humpert expressed the idea of using the award as an incentive for future commitment.

A week for sustainability

The award ceremony was part of the Sustainability Week. The UAS and TU organized it together with the Studierendenwerk. For four days, employees offered events and information on sustainable working and living. The program included a "Sustainability Market" in the foyer of the canteen, a creative flea market in front of Emil-Figge-Straße 50 and an upcycling workshop.

In cooperation with the CSR Office and Mobile Childcare (MoKi), the universities' family service offices invited participants to the kostBar for upcycling and an open exchange, where they made individual, decorative pieces of jewelry from screw-top jars.
