Fachhochschule Dortmund took an excellent third place in the "Dehazing Echo 2025" challenge in connection with the MICCAI conference in South Korea. A team from the Faculty of Information Technology, consisting of research assistants Dominik Fromme, Tim Streckert and Matti Kaupenjohann, worked hard to achieve this.
The name MICCAI of the internationally important conference stands for Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention. It focuses on the development of AI solutions for biomedical image analysis.
This year, a particular focus was on the processing of echocardiography images, which play a central role in cardiac diagnosis but are impaired by poor image quality in some patients. Using modern dehazing algorithms, the FH team has improved image quality to enable more accurate diagnoses. Dominik Fromme presented the process and the results at the MICCAI via an online meeting on September 27, 2025.
Fachhochschule Dortmund was in prestigious company on the virtual winner's podium for the challenge: first place went to Zhejiang University in China and second to the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
