TraFo invited interested researchers to the first "ResearchDialog" at Joseph-von-Fraunhofer-Straße. Ten researchers from Fachhochschule Dortmund presented examples of projects that are already benefiting from the in-house HIFF funding program.
The HIFF program is primarily intended as start-up funding, as support for the development of research fields for newly appointed researchers and as an instrument for promoting cooperation within and across departments. Raimond Filges, Head of the Transfer Office, and Julian Berg, Head of the External Funding Affairs team in the Department of Finance and External Funding, presented further details such as funding objects, funding amounts and other conditions to the 36 participants in their welcome presentation.
Some researchers used the Pecha Kucha method for their presentations: vivid slides with photos, videos and graphics, but without text; the slide changes every 20 seconds; the presentation ends after 20 slides (and 6 minutes and 40 seconds). Other researchers used the science slam method.
Prof. Dr. Alessandro Fortino talked about the MIMO-ANC project for noise suppression in e-car interiors. Prof. Dr. Simone Arnold presented her research on fire behavior analysis by evaluating sensors in forest fire tests. Prof. Dr. Dierk Borstel reported on the scientific monitoring of the Dortmund soccer organization Nordstadtliga. Harald Opel and Tobias Bieseke from storyLab kiU in Dortmund's U-Tower introduced the audience to their Metamorphotica project.
Computer scientist Prof. Dr. Frank Künemund explained his Mobile EnviSense project. The economists Prof. Dr. Katja Klingebiel and Prof. Dr. Jan Cirullies presented LogILab, an IoT-based laboratory environment. Prof. Dr. Andreas Becker and Dr. Tai Fei concluded with their RoRad project before the participants got talking to each other, exchanged ideas and explored joint research approaches - thus fulfilling the second important purpose of this first ResearchDialogue.
TraFo
"TraFo" stands for the combination of transfer office and research office. It is Fachhochschule Dortmund's central point of contact for supporting our researchers throughout the entire research process, from the search for funding opportunities for a project idea to the final proof of use to the project sponsor.
TraFo's portfolio includes counseling and coaching, financial calculation and administrative support for research projects, review and preparation of third-party funding contracts, property rights and patenting issues, external coordination, the Graduate Center and the start-up service. TraFo also organizes various events in the context of research and transfer aimed at internal and external target groups.
